According to Wikipedia, "doom refers to a state or feeling of impending and inevitable destruction and ruin, far beyond mere trouble." DOOM is also the title of a series of FPS (first-person shooter) computer games released by id Software. The first game, released in 1993, revolutionized the genre, expanding upon its predecessors, the likes of Wolfenstein 3D, and laying down the blueprint for the future of the genre. And yet, 15 years later, DOOM remains, in my opinion, the greatest FPS game ever created.
A large portion of the credit for DOOM's lasting success is due to id Software's decision to make the game easily hackable, resulting in a large and thriving modding community of fans designing new levels and modifying the engine's "rules", even to this day. As a DOOM fan, I am continuously finding myself getting engrossed in the game anew, finding new and exciting levels to play all the time. And there's no stress-reliever quite like mowing down the very denizens of Hell!
This test will evaluate your knowledge and experience with classic DOOM. This includes the original DOOM and its sequel, as well as a generalized overview of the modding community. This test does not cover non-PC adaptations of DOOM, the DOOM movie, or the new DOOM 3 game. Furthermore, content-specific questions will be geared toward single-player or cooperative play, and not deathmatch.
