Welcome to my Egogram test -
The Adapted Child.
This is Part 5, the final test in the series.
Caveat: If you don't like reading long introductions, then this test is probably not for you.
You may also like to take the following: Parts
1 - Nurturing Parent,
2 - Controlling Parent,
3 - Adult,
4 - Natural Child (The order you taken the tests in does not matter)
I'll be using the theories of
Eric Bern MD the father of
Transactional Analysis to determine your true nature.
According to Bern's
Transactional Analysis theory, every individual's personality is divided into three distinct parts known as
Parent,
Adult and
Child states.
When the words
Parent,
Adult and
Child are preceded by a capital P, A, or C, they refer to stereotype attitudes and not to actual parents, adults or children. Structural analysis consists of analysing our personality with a view to discovering the nature of our individual states and will help us to better understand who we are and how we have become that personality. Moreover, an enhanced understanding of our personality will help us to work more effectively.
P
A
C
While the above ego states are are present in all of us simultaneously, only one of these will be in command at any given moment in time. Furthermore, the states do not depend on the individual's age and each presents positive and negative aspects.
3. The Child ego state
While our mental recorder registers events on our
Parent track, it records the feelings associated with these events on our
Child track, filing the joy, surprise, astonishment and all of the marvels of discovery, as well as terror, anguish and the fear we have experienced.
Our
Child Ego State is a place of urges, needs and feelings and is a universe of affectivity and emotions. The
Child Ego State is where the experiences from our early childhood are filed and from which we make our first 'stand' with respect to ourselves and to others
The
Child Ego State is divided into the
Natural Child and the
Adapted Child Ego States.
The
Natural Child behaves as a child would do naturally, bringing together creativity, intuition and curiosity. The
Natural Child enjoys life, expressed itself freely its feelings of happiness, sadness, anger and fear depending on the situation, and is
spontaneous. The
Natural Child is the state which
loves.
The
Adapted Child adapts its behaviour under the influence of its parents, behaving in the way that its parents would like it to, for example, with obedience or precociousness or perhaps also by showing reserve, by being vindictive or rebellious.
Some people show their
Child state more than others.
In this test we will examine your
Adapted Child state. The
Adapted Child Ego State has one positive aspect - the
Model Child - and two negative aspects - the
Compliant Child and the
Rebellious Child.
