The "ship paradox".

  1. Is an entity the compilation of its' experience, or its' parts?

  2. 1

Lets imagine a ship; let's call it "A".

"A" is docked at a harbor; let's call the harbor "Harbor of Ships".

The ship "A" is composed of 4 parts.

The ship "A" goes on 5 voyages.

*After* each individual voyage, a different part of "A" is replaced. Consequently, on the 5th voyage, the ship is comprised of completely new material.

On the return voyage from the 5th voyage, the sailors on "A" notice a new ship harbored in "Harbor of Ships".

Let's call the new ship "B".

Ship "B" is comprised completely of the replaced material from the voyages of ship "A".

As the ships "A" and "B" are harbored next to each other, the sailors want you to tell them which one is the ship.
