As a study aid for my mammalogy class, I created a slide show of mammalian skulls to identify. The following test is that slide show -- it represents mammals of almost every living mammalian order.
In most cases, you will only have to identify the skull down to order, but in some cases you most make a more specific diagnosis. This test is intended to be hard and very technical -- so if you don't have a background in mammalogy and get a terrible grade, don't worry about it -- this is fairly esoteric knowledge to begin with.
And, for you mammalogists out there, a note about nomenclature. I'll be using the outdated "Insectivora" on this test to include solenodons, shrews, tenrecs, the golden mole, hedgehogs and true moles. Sengis (elephant shrews) are listed in the order Macroscelidea, while the Xenarthra are split into Pilosa (sloths and anteaters) and Cingulata (armadillos). Seven orders of marsupial are recognized, and the living monotremes are classified in a single order.
Good luck!
