The first thing you learn as an English Lit student is how to read as little as possible of a text, while maintaining the ability to pontificate on it for literally hours. Viz, remembering the beginning and the end, and skipping the tedious middle part, 'revising' this in time for coursework and exams by cramming York Notes the night before. The ability to remember first and last lines allows one to come across as a literati, thus naturally impressing one's peers, without actually having to spend too much time indoors pouring over pages which frankly should sometimes never have been written, let alone read by sane human beings. This test will determine the seasoned skimmer from the amateur textual enthusiast. *WARNING* - not reading texts, as an Eng Lit student, will NOT in fact make it easy for you to pass any Eng Lit educational proceedures (degrees, exams, etc) - consider yourselves duly notified.
