Greetings, and welcome to my Lesbian Authors Test, previously known as the Lesbian Literary Canon Test. In that one, however, I made the mistake of including photos of the authors I talk about, which led to the test being mostly nonexistent. This is the same test, but all in glorious text without illuminations.
We have all well, perhaps not quite all, but I suspect most of us at one time or another wanted to find the books that relate to us, tell us what life is all about, or help us explore ourselves and the options open to us. I know that at fifteen, I failed miserably in finding them, but by now I know that they do exist. So the question, really, is whether you too have found them, and know something about the women who wrote them. Please view this as much as a recommendation and an exploration of some of the great lesbian authors as it is a "test" of anything; obviously, you will gain points from knowing the authors I ask you to name, but much more important is that you take a look at them and their work, if you happen not to know them already. They are all, at least in my opinion, more than worth the time and effort it takes to find and read them.
The image above is a mosaic from Pompeii supposedly depicting Sappho, the earliest great lesbian author known to us, a poet whose words have lived for two and a half thousand years. She is long gone, but her name lives on and it as well as her island have given us words for ourselves. At least some of her poems remain. You should read them!
