The Japanese Words In English Test

  1. Japan has integrated a multitude of words of English origin into its language, but English has borrowed its fair share back. Linguistic whore that it is, English cares not where it gets it's new words, only that it gets them. And in the process, English butchers the pronunciation and often twists the meaning of the original foreign words. So, you think yourself worldly? Test your knowledge about these Japanese words that have reverse Admiral Perry'd their way into our lexicon.

The questions herein pertain to how the words should be pronounced in Japanese and what their Japanese meaning is. For example, take the word "karate". The English pronunciation is kuh-RAH-tee, but I'm looking for kah-rah-tay. Another example, "anime" may mean specifically Japanese animation here, but in Japan is refers to all kinds of animated media.
