When people hold irrational beliefs - persuasion is impossible unless those people come back and accept rational thought, at least to some degree. When two irrational beliefs collide, one must resort back to reason, or you have the beginning of a conflict. Todays world seems to support the idea if you can only get enough followers - you can defy reality and reason and build your own irrational world.
