While the American Election is tying up all the networks, a little north of the border an election is happening too. In Canada, it's a little different. We have a Prime Minister and a House of Commons with 308 members, elected for a maximum five-year term.
Don't let the max 5-year throw you though. Elections aren't scheduled like clockwork. We have elections when the Prime Minister asks the Governor General to call an election or when the government loses the confidence of the House of Commons. We also don't vote for our leader directly. We vote in the best representative for our area and the leader of the party with the most representatives becomes our Prime Minister.
Confusing to explain, but works for us.
On October 14th, it will be up to the average Canadian, 18 and older, to choose the government. Here's a quick 10 question test to help you figure out, despite what you're preconceived notions are, which of the three major parties you should vote for.
(My apologies to all other parties)
