Your result for The Word Origin Test ...
Very few correct
Sorry, you got very few of them correct. Don't feel too bad because some of them were very hard, and there is a penalty for guessing. Knowing the origins of words can help you to learn their spelling, and it can also help you to understand new or deeper meanings of the words. When you look up a word in the dictionary, look to see if your dictionary also shows the word's etymology. You might be surprised by what you find!
Language classes and good-old-fashioned checking the dictionary will further improve your skills. Also, you can retake the test and pay attention to the hints. All of the hints are good general tips, and some of them are particularly important for the question that they immediately follow.
The word "sophomore" comes from a contraction of the Greek words "sophos" meaning wise and "moros" meaning moronic or stupid. I'm not calling you stupid! You were curious enough to take this test when many people would have been hesitant or simply uninterested. It is my sincerest belief that curiosity is the foundation of all wisdom. Therefore I think you are a true sophomore, in the sense that you maybe did not perform well, but that you nonetheless have the necessary foundation for great wisdom.
Even though you didn't do so well I still hope you enjoyed the test. Thanks for playing!
