Anglo-American - Revolver - Powerful
The Smith & Wesson Military & Police, one of many names for the 'Hand Ejector', later nomenclatured 'Model 10', and in many ways the quintessential American revolver of the period, was, according to some reports, at one point issued by up to 80% of American police forces. As befitting the name, it was also widely used by rear-echelon army units; indeed, the British Army, chronically short of handguns, used versions of the design in both world wars.

The United States Revolver, Caliber .45, M1917 (.45ACP, 6-round cylinder, introduced 1917) was originally designed to supplement the M1911 pistol, and was produced by both Colt and Smith & Wesson; the differences between the two versions are minor. It was popular on the civilian market after the war, and continued in military and civilian use until at least the 1950s. The Colt New Service (.45 Colt, 6-round cylinder, introduced 1898) was an equivalent, and often-seen, Colt model.
