I'd recommend you choose a pantheon which is only currently worshiped in a reconstructed form. That means the people that worship those gods now, are not the same people, or at least, have no way of knowing if they're worshiping the pantheon in the same way, that the ancient culture did.
I'll say, google "ancient aztec gods"
Mayan, Sumerian, Egyptian, Babylonian, Chinese, Incan, Akkadian or Hittite would all be a good place to start.
In choosing your new pantheon, be warned: most of what you will read about Ancient civilizations is crap...whether the "scholars" want to believe it or not....there is absolutely no way of proving that Ancient cultures did something a certain way or not. :)
