Vera became interested in fashion when she would attend shows in Paris with her mother. As a child she was a comptetive figure skater and has even appeared in Sports Illustrated.
She was a fashion reporter and editor for Vogue for several years. When she was turned down for the Editor and Chief position she went to work for Ralph Lauren. She designed outfits for well known figure skaters such as Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan.
Vera has been quoted to say: "All those years of skating and dancing have carried over. I can't design anything without thinking of how a woman's body will look and move when she's wearing it."
