Frontal lobe syndrome is known to accure as a result of damage to the prefrontal cortex, that is the very front part of the brain. The prefrontal cortex is involved in problem solving, inhibition, decision making, empathy, and other important aspects of our personality and character.
Symtoms of Frontal Lobe Syndrome: Boastfulness, impulsiveness, lack of inhibition, and a hard time planning and reasoning. Antisocial behaviour, depression, and apathy are also known to result. People with damage to the prefrontal cortex are also known to have difficulty understanding certain types of humor (see this Science Daily article for more: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/1999/03/990325105542.htm)
Most common cause: Because the prefrontal cortex is in a very vulnerable place at the front of the skull, head trauma is the most common cause of frontal lobe syndrome.
Case study: The best known historical case of frontal lobe syndrome was that of Phineas Gage, a rail worker whose frontal lobe suffered bilateral damage after an explosion drove a railroad spike throuh his skull. Although he survived, Gage underwent a drastic change in personality. He lost his sense of duty, responsibility, and work ethic. He became capricious, unreliable, and socially unchecked.

There are many things that could cause similar symptoms to those listed and these are certainly not the only types of symptoms that could present when the prefrontal cortex is damaged.
